![]() One of the exercises in my training program for more advanced drivers includes completing laps at one track, using a variety of cars. A simulator is ideal for this exercise as I want a driver to be able to use several different cars all within one training session. The idea being to force a driver to quickly adapt and focus on their reactive driving abilities. For these training sessions, I also set reference laps of my own so that we can analyze and compare the driver's performance.
We realized these reference laps would make a good Track Notes supplement, so as they become available, we will be adding them to each track's individual page in the Track Notes section and you'll be able to find any additional videos that don't have Track Notes yet on our YouTube page. |

As a Track Notes Supplement
We aim to include a variety of cars covering several popular classes from MX-5 all the way up to Formula 1. If you aren't sure where your car fits on the spectrum, feel free to contact us so we can provide guidance.
Beyond just looking at the relevant video for your own type of car, it can be quite helpful to view how other cars optimize a track. For example, you could test your Line Theory knowledge by trying to predict how one car might apex a corner differently from another.

Reference Laps as a Training Tool
We highly recommend the use of a simulator in a driver's training program. If you wish use Reference Laps as a training tool by comparing them to your own laps, you'll want to make sure you use the correct settings so that all time differences are based solely on driver performance.
All reference laps are done using the default iRacing weather with an automatically generated track state. Make sure to also uncheck dynamic sky and dynamic weather. Reference Laps always use the baseline car setup as well, so don't make any setup changes if you wish to be able to directly compare times.
